The new Ford Bronco Raptor is inspired by the Ultra4-Racing desert series. This race is widely considered to be one of the most demanding off-road races ever. Bronco Raptor’s design and equipment is inherited popular F-150 Raptor model. With a more compact, shorter body, Bronco pushes its off-road capabilities even further. Compared to the standard Bronco model, the height of the body is 12 cm higher and reaches 198 cm. The biggest change is in car width, which grows to an extreme size of 221 cm which is 25 cm more than other Bronco models and beats even the F-150 Raptor.
Raptor also has a more powerful 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine with 418HP and 596 Nm of torque. 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard with the possibility of manual shifting with paddles under the steering wheel. Modifications of the off-road model also affected the body frame. Thanks to the reinforced B and C pillars, the torsional rigidity of the body has increased by 50%. The suspension also got its share of improvements. Here we find skid plates for the engine, transmission and cardan, which ensure much safer off-roading drivers and experiences.
HOSS 4.0 chassis (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) is completely unique to the Bronco Raptor model. Includes performance Fox 3.1 Internal Bypass Semi-Active shocks. The shocks work with suspension height sensors and other sensors that monitor the position of each wheel up to 100x per second and adapt accordingly to the terrain surface. Further here we can find custom-designed arms that allow for a much higher wheel travel. There is a front 33 cm wheel travel and even 35.5 cm for the rear wheels. Compared to the standard model, it is 60% resp. 40% more. We can also mention the wheel track, which has been increased by almost 22 cm to a full 187 cm. The car have proven heavy duty axles Dana 44 at the front and the even more robust Dana 50 at the rear. Off-road skills are supported by reinforced aluminum 17″ wheels, which are equip in massive off-road tires BFGoodrich BSW A/T All Terrain 37×12.5″.
The car is equipped with new electronically controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case. The 4×4 system defaults to a 2H rear wheel drive mode for street driving, offers automatic engagement of the front axle in 4H mode that is suitable for slippery surfaces like sand, mud, snow or ice. Thanks to a constant traction control and torque distribution the system automatically activates and deactivates the all wheel drive mode depending on current conditions. Fixed all wheel drive mode is provided by the selectable 4H. This mode electronically locked power to both axles. The last 4L drive mode is tuned for difficult terrain conditions with 67,9:1 crawl ratio. In off-roading has driver available electrically controlled front and rear differential locks and also electronically disconnect front stabilizer bar which allows for increased traction on even the hardest terrain conditions.
Bronco is in all of its trim levels equipped with a G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) system that adjusts the suspension, transmission, engine and steering responsivness to adapt to even the roughest of terrain conditions. The system includes several of available drive modes based on the selected trim level: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Tow- Haul, Rock Crawl, Baja, Off-Road. Trail Control – special cruise control for low speed terrain driving.
